Glasgow District Squads are delighted to announce the launch of their ‘Excel Programme’, an intensive 14 week Strength and conditioning programme for 15 selected elite U15/U17 Glasgow District Athletes.
Delivered by Kevin Watson (Oarsome Sport and Fitness) , a High Performance Strength & Conditioning Coach in The Institute of Sport at The Palace of Art in Glasgow, the programme is specifically designed to provide additional support and training for those Glasgow District athletes identified by their coaches as excelling towards the levels required of a National Athlete.
Strength and conditioning involves the physical preparation of elite athletes. Strength training is used to build muscle, strength and power which will compliment the other forms of training provided by Glasgow District. Conditioning deals with the more sport specific fitness element of training and can involve endurance training, SAQ training, flexibility and mobility training and sport specific circuit training. Combined with the training and fitness programme delivered by Glasgow District this will improve overall performance on the court.
District Squad Coordinator Natalie Doherty said “I am absolutely delighted at the progress Glasgow district have made over the last 2 seasons, this exclusive to Glasgow programme, which we have developed with 2014 in mind, will mean that our Glasgow Athletes get the performance enhancing training required to ensure our athletes are ready for the National set up. The programme which will run until the end of April 2012 demands a high level of commitment from the athletes however the benefits that it will provide will I’m sure make it all worthwhile.”
